1. Irish Cinema Showcase: Steps of Freedom (4/22)

YoFiFest  Irish Cinema Showcase STEPS OF FREEDOM

Learn about the history of Irish Step Dancing with this 84-minute film directed by Ruan Magan. Trace its history from folk dance to a style loved by millions around the world. The film will be shown as part of the YoFi Irish Cinema Showcase in Yonkers on April 22 at 7:30 p.m. The short, Mam’s Old Chair, will be shown following Steps of Freedom. Another film hailing from Dublin, Ireland, is directed by Sheena Walsh. The showcase includes films throughout the weekend. Tickets are $10.

2. Illusionist Rick Thomas (4/23/22)

Wowing audiences at sold-out performances in Las Vegas for the past 15 years and in venues around the world, such as the Sydney Opera House in Australia, magician Rick Thomas is also a star of Masters of Illusion and The Illusionists on Broadway and was named “Illusionist of the World,” the industry’s highest recognition, by the World Magic Awards. Performance time 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 and up.

3. Climate Hope: How Do We Fix This? (virtual) (4/25)

Continue celebrating Earth Day by learning how to care for our planet with this zoom lecture given by Dr. Stephen “Mitch” Wagener of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at Western Connecticut State University on April 25 at 5:30 p.m. The virtual lecture will discuss escaping old habits and forming new attitudes to cut emissions, regenerate the biosphere and create a better world for future generations. This lecture is free and open to the public.

  • Audre Lorde: The Berlin Years 1984 to 1992 (Pleasantville): Audre Lorde: The Berlin Years 1984 to 1992 explores a little-known chapter of the writer’s prolific life, a period in which she helped ignite the Afro-German Movement and made lasting contributions to the German political and cultural scene before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the German reunification.” The English/German film has subtitles. A media specialist in the education and not-for-profit sectors, Patrice Athanasidy has written in the Hudson Valley for over 25 years. A Bronx native, she loves exploring all the Hudson Valley has to offer from parks to theaters to historic places.
