Workshops for Young Poets in Peekskill
Cindy Beer-Fouhy wants more young poets to know it.
As part of National Poetry Month, on April 10 poet and creative writing instructor Cindy Beer-Fouhy will offer poetry workshops for young writers, in collaboration with Antonia Arts Inc., at Studio Two in Peekskill.
The workshops, designed to inspire and encourage young poets, are scheduled for 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. for children in grades 2 -3 and noon-1:30 p.m for children in grades 4-5.
Through prompts and interactive exercises, students will discover how to organize and express their thoughts, feelings and ideas as they write original poems and share their work in an encouraging atmosphere.
Beer-Fouhy earned a BA in English from CCNY and an MS Ed from Lehman College. She is New York State Certified in English (grades 6 -12) and Early Childhood. From 1995 to 2005 she was Founder and Director of Literary Arts at The Northern Westchester Center for the Arts in Mt. Kisco. She created and developed curriculum for creative writing programs and facilitated workshops for ages 6 to adult and studied poetry writing with Molly Peacock, Billy Collins and Ron Price. Her poetry has been widely published in literary journals and aired on Cable TV. She is currently a freelance writer, arts consultant and the President of Public Eye Publicity.
The fee is $40 per child and each session is limited to 10 children. Studio Two is located at 814 South Street in Peekskill.
