Yorktown Special Election Campaign Continues to Deteriorate

On Mar. 25, candidate for Yorktown supervisor, Jann Michandani, was quoted as saying that her opponent, Deputy Supervisor Ed Lachterman “had behaved unethically by referring to his position as “supervisor” in town documents. She also filed a complaint with the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee about this matter.
In response, Lachterman said that he does not use the title of supervisor, even though, under regulations of the State of New York, he may when carrying out the town’s business. He said that the town collects press releases during the month and they are sent out under the supervisor’s e-mail address.
The committee agreed with Lachterman, once again saying that he was entitled to use the title when carrying out town business, and denied the complaint. It did, however, agree with Lachterman’s complaint against Michandani that her leaking out her complaint in a “press release” on Facebook was a violation.
Lachterman further claimed that Michandani had misquoted him concerning campaign donations.
I had hoped that we would have a calm, respectful campaign focused on such boring but important issues as tax abatement policy, placement of solar farms, extension of sewers, landmarking, etc.
I guess not.
