In the March 12 edition of this paper. there were two letters of support for Ed Lachterman for supervisor. The first one, by Diane and Douglas Buschel, speaks in generalities about Mr. Lachterman’s knowledge of infrastructure. I would like to have more details about the “unparalleled management expertise” that sets him apart from his opponent. In particular I would be interested to learn more about his understanding of infrastructure development.
Voters should have explicit information on Ed’s” “track record” that “demonstrates his keen ability to navigate the complexities of infrastructure development” and implementation. Knowing which specific projects he was instrumental in initiating and following to completion would be enlightening to voters.
The second letter by John McMullen lauded Ed’s role in addressing hunger in our community. This is an area in which he has excelled at making a difference. Addressing food insecurity, while utterly praiseworthy, is not a basis to vote for a candidate for supervisor.
I have heard much rhetoric about Mr. Lachterman, but would appreciate facts highlighting his specific abilities for the position.
Yorktown is experiencing dramatic growth. It is time for the community to consider changing the structure of town government. Yorktown might benefit from a town manager form of government. The town manager follows the directions of the Town Board, but would have the experience, knowledge and competence starting on Day One.
We no longer live in a “small town.” The job of supervising the future growth of Yorktown needs the guidance of a professional.
