Yorktown Has Been Nothing More Than an ATM for Developers

Developers unconstrained land grab of prime gems of Yorktown under the guise of overlay redistricting is a lot like coal company robber barons of old grinding up whole mountains in pursuit of maximum profits regardless of consequences.

In the process they’re ruining quiet neighborhoods, cutting trees by the hundreds, creating traffic problems and leaving urban sprawl in its wake. The once proud Underhill Mansion with its boarded-up windows and broken shutters looks like a Halloween haunted house these days.

You can count on Yorktown’s politicians giving away generous tax breaks and granting every variance imaginable. This current Town Board has never said no to certain developers or the ex-politicians in their employ. Is that why Yorktown is referred to as a developer’s ATM? Has overlay redistricting ultimately allowed the foxes to guard Yorktown’s hen house making no parcel of land safe from exploitation?

Developers get to keep their profits but Yorktown taxpayers are stuck with the lingering burden of paying for all the continuing hidden costs of providing services and building and maintaining new infrastructure like schools, roads and the necessity of hiring more teachers, police and other civil servants. Vote for change.
