Yorktown Friends Host Free Open Lacrosse Program
Cerberus Lacrosse founders, Alex Besterman and Michael Cushner have developed a program in which boys can attend weekly two hour open lacrosse sessions for the fall season. The format of the sessions is a combination of clinic style drills and in game situations. The program is coached by former collegiate and professional lacrosse standout, Joe Vasold.
The first eight weeks are being held at Navajo Fields, while the final four weeks will be attending tournaments. “We are committed to playing four tournaments on consecutive weeks starting on Oct. 28 and ending on Nov. 18. The plan is to play at the Connecticut Beach Blast, then back to back weeks at Hofstra, and a final event at Yale,” Besterman said.
When asked, why are you guys doing this for free? Cushner replied “it is a great opportunity for us to give back and support our community and kids. We wanted to establish a program without financial boundaries, while giving them the opportunity to participate in some great events. A typical fall program in our area costs on average $850, the fact that we can offer a great product at zero cost is a huge win. For us it is not about the money, it is all about the kids.”
