Wright Gets Republican Nomination Over Incumbent DiCarlo
Kevin Wright, a former legislator and district attorney, won Putnam Republicans’ designation last Monday to be the District 9 representative on the County Legislature on the GOP ticket. Wright received more than 62 percent of the votes, beating out the incumbent Leg. Anthony DiCarlo at the Carmel Republican Committee meeting.
After the vote, Wright in a brief address to the crowd thanked all and expressed sincere hopes to work for a better tomorrow with everyone.
The Republican County Chairman Jim DiBella determined that the District 9 Republican Party designation was not being done at the county convention this year, but rather at the Carmel Republican Committee convention. All of the committee members entitled to choose their District 9 Legislative candidate are exclusively within the Town of Carmel Republican Committee.
Of the 29 votes cast Wright received 18 and DiCarlo got 11.
Wright represented District 9 in the legislature from 1980- 1987 then as the county’s district attorney from 1998- 2007.
He is currently running on a platform to keep the state-mandated tax cap in place, to curtail runaway government spending and to hold no other public employment position than his legislative office.
DiCarlo has been a school administrator for various districts while he has served as an elected official for the past 10 years. He served two terms as a Carmel town councilman and is finishing his first term as a county legislator.
DiCarlo said that in every race he has run he has always had an opponent. He intends to get enough signatures on his petitions to cause a primary for the Republican line.
