WJCS Parent-Child Home Program Celebrates 40th Anniversary
The WJCS Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), an innovative, home-based literacy program, celebrated its 40th anniversary at a breakfast honoring its “home visitors” at the agency’s headquarters in White Plains. During half-hour, twice-weekly visits, the home visitors use specially selected toys and books to provide cognitive enrichment through verbal interaction and special game play.
“Since 1972 PCHP, a research-proven national school readiness program, has supported parents as their child’ most important teacher and prepared thousands of children facing the toughest odds to enter school ready to succeed,” said Program Director Patrice Cuddy. “Promoting the joy of learning, our many dedicated home visitors are a vital component to the success of the program and the children it serves.”
PCHP home visitors work with families in Greenburgh, Mamaroneck, Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Port Chester and White Plains. PCHP graduates have gone to fulfilling careers making an impact on the communities in which they live and work.
