White Plains Hospital Sports Injury Hotline for School Athletes
With the winter sports season now in full swing at Westchester area high schools, many athletes are faced with an increased risk for overuse injuries or playing with injuries they may think are less than they actually are. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimates that high school athletes log an estimated two million injuries, 500,000 doctor visits and 30,000 hospitalizations each year. Unfortunately, before getting an appointment with a doctor days or even a week often go by without a proper medical evaluation. That interim can be problematic as the athlete tries to “play through” the pain, frequently making the injury worse.
In an effort to address this long-standing problem among student athletes, a group of doctors working with White Plains Hospital Physician Associates’ has created the Sports Injury Hotline, designed to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art sports injury evaluation, physical therapy and care within 24 hours of the phone call.
The Hotline provides direct access to diagnosis, treatment and recovery. As soon as an injury occurs, the athletic director, coach or parent of the athlete can call the Hotline to arrange for an immediate appointment. Services include: on-site X-Ray and quick access to MRI; on-site physical therapy services; concussion management and impact interpretation; custom-made protective equipment; functional brace fitting.
