Westchester to Honor Fallen Soldiers This Weekend
Westchester County will hold a ceremony this Sunday at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla to honor two local servicemen who died this year in Afghanistan.
Army Specialist David R. Fahey Jr. of Yorktown Heights and Army Sergeant Edward J. Frank II of Yonkers will have trees dedicated in their honor at a special ceremony beginning at 3 p.m. at the plaza’s Memorial Tree Walkway.
“These young men remain in the hearts of all of us,” County Executive Rob Astorino said in a press release. “The trees are a visible tribute to their bravery and to their sacrifice.”
Bronze plaques with the soldiers’ names, ranks and hometowns will be unveiled by family members, Astorino said, adding that 14 trees have previously been dedicated to the memory of soldiers who died in the line of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom.
