🎵 PRELUDE: Blue Sky Days
Beacon, New York-based artist, Rachael Sage, is a soulful vocalist, an innovative multi-instrumentalist, and award-winning singer/songwriter. Her 2020 album, Character, yielded the Billboard-charting single “Blue Sky Days”.
Since founding her own label MPress Records two decades ago, she has steadily released a slew of vibrant, dynamic albums. Sage has toured with an eclectic list of artists including Ani DiFranco, Beth Hart, Howard Jones, and Grammy winners Shawn Colvin and Judy Collins. As Billboard noted, “Her keen, ironic sense of humor and quirky sense of the profound is what makes her special as a songwriter.”
Released in 2021, Sage’s latest project Poetica, is an adventurous fusion of poetry with jazz, classical, and Americana musical elements in the vein of Leonard Cohen and Laurie Anderson.

📅 FLASHBACK: 1890s
An 1890s photo of Saint Andrew’s Golf Club when it was located in the Grey Oaks section of Yonkers. Saint Andrew’s was founded when Scottish John Reid played a round of improvised golf in a cow meadow with some friends, their “clubhouse” just an apple tree upon which they hung their jackets. Soon afterward, Reid and some of his friends decided to officially form “Saint Andrew’s Golf Club of Yonkers”, with Reid as the obvious choice for its first president. In 1892, the club moved to Palisades Avenue, and by 1894, due to booming membership, it moved again to Grey Oaks. Besides being among the oldest golf clubs in America, Saint Andrew’s is known for many firsts, such as hosting the first US Open championship and having the first photo of golf in America taken there. In addition, the first golf gold medal winner at the Paris Olympics was a Saint Andrew’s member. Today, Saint Andrew’s is located on Old Jackson Avenue in Hastings-On-Hudson, but still features an apple tree branch from the original “clubhouse.” — MADDIE STONE
