Volunteer Event to be Held Friday in White Plains
Westchester County and the Volunteer Center of the United Way are expecting more than 100 non-profit agencies to participate in Friday’s “Serve and Learn” event aimed at matching volunteers with organizations that need their help.
The event, held at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, is part of a national “I Will” campaign to encourage volunteering and will kick off the county’s observance of the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
“People remember the horror of Sept. 11, but should never forget the heroism and how our nation came together to help,” County Executive Rob Astorino said in a press release. “Serve and Learn is a way to give people a way to honor the memory of those who died.”
The Serve and Learn event will run from 2 to 7 p.m. There will also be hands-on activities such as a blood drive, which will start at 9 a.m.
