Pleasantville Backs Away From Waste Fee Increase
Pleasantville residents that live in condominiums, co-ops and townhouses can breathe easy. Their waste fees will not be increasing.
Mayor Peter Scherer said this week that he does not expect the village to proceed with its proposal that would’ve had condos, co-ops and townhouses paying the same waste fees as single-family homes. Currently, condos, co-ops and townhouses pay 75 percent of the fee.
At a work session at last Monday’s village board meeting, Scherer said he accepted the argument from Foxwoods tenants that garbage pickup for Foxwoods’ 254 units was more efficient and quicker than going to 254 single family homes. Foxwoods is the village’s most populated condominium complex.
At Foxwoods, tenants bring their garbage to seven designated locations. Foxwoods residents had also contended that they produce less garbage.
“I do not expect we will proceed with this,” Scherer said. “I think in the end, this is the right decision from my standpoint.”
