Tuesday, December 3, Is Giving Tuesday in Westchester County
The Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless has named this December 3rd as GivingTuesday to celebrate charitable works with an initiative created to balance record spending during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday retail sales with gifts of need.
The coalition has created a catalog of ‘gifts’ to showcase the greatest areas of need.
In Westchester County, homelessness has increased 24 percent over the past 12 months. More than 200,000 people are hungry or at risk of hunger. One in every three moms struggles with diaper need. Seniors and disabled people are at risk of eviction. Female veterans, in particular, struggle with homelessness. More than 83,000 people live below the poverty line.
These hardships become increasingly more difficult to cope with during the holiday season. Browse the Coalition’s catalog at westchestercoalition.org to choose how you will help.
