Town, School to Partner for Greener Future in Somers
The Somers Energy Environment Committee and Somers Central School District have partnered to promote a greener future for residents.
“We believe a tighter bond between the Somers Central School District and the town will enable us to make progress on many fronts,” stated Herb Oringel, chairman of the Somers Energy Environment Committee, and Frank Maricic, energy manager for Somers, in a release.
Some of the ideas being explored include an IBM Science Fair with the Somers Rotary Club, tree plantings, essay contests, energy survey and published articles on the environment.
The Somers PTA is planning to start sustainable gardens in each school with assistance from the Somers Energy Environment Committee. The PTA is also looking to award a grant to teachers engaging in projects with students.
