I have observed in the local papers a former elected official bemoaning the fact that this is a quiet election in Yorktown.
That’s a good thing. People complain in the newspapers when they are annoyed with their town government for their unresponsiveness to town problems, mishandling of town business, tax increases, declining services and rising expenses.
Yorktown Supervisor Tom Diana with his years of experience as a board member and his two years as supervisor has settled a catastrophic problem for Yorktown residents. He recently negotiated and successfully executed a contract to have Yorktown garbage picked up on Labor Day weekend after it was abandoned by the original company. He signed a new unheard of one-year contract with a new garbage hauler and worked with them to get the job done over that holiday weekend and managed to successfully fine the original company
$59,500 and $92,000, a result of experienced negotiations.
The cost for this successful outcome will be less than the cost of a cup of Starbucks each month.
The opposition party is presenting three highly inexperienced candidates for election to the town’s highest positions that require experience, leadership and the ability to get things done. They lack all three.
In this country, anyone can run for public office, but just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. On-the-job training will not benefit Yorktown. Experience separates the professional from the amateur who will gain experience at the taxpayers’ expense.
Tom Diana is not only a good choice; he is the only choice. If you want Yorktown to remain the safest small town in the U.S., pat him on the back with a vote to continue as supervisor.
