Thousands Expected for Slain Officer’s Funeral
The funeral of slain City of Poughkeepsie Police Officer John Falcone, killed in the line of duty last week, will be held Thursday in Carmel, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is expecting “extremely heavy vehicle traffic.”
Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. James the Apostle Church on Route 52 and thousands of people are expected to attend. In anticipation of the crowd, several streets will be closed in and around the Hamlet of Carmel from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Route 52, eastbound traffic will be detoured around the hamlet via Dykeman Road or Towner’s Road in Kent.
On Route 301, eastbound traffic will be detoured around the hamlet via Belden Road in Carmel.
On Route 6, traffic in both directions will be detoured around the hamlet via Church Street in Carmel.
On Fair Street, southbound traffic will be detoured around the hamlet via Hill & Dale Road in Kent or John Simpson Road in Southeast.
