Those Criticizing Israel’s Response to Hamas Fail to Grasp the Situation
Opinion Advocates for ideas and draws conclusions based on the author/producer’s interpretation of facts and data.
The opinion piece last week, “Student Organizers Should Be Commended for Chappaqua Peace Rally,” suggests that “critics of the rally would do well to examine the facts.”
Here is an uncomfortable fact: Israel was living in peace on Oct. 6. The following day a group of psychopaths supported by more than 80 percent of the Gazan populous invaded, raped, burned and killed some 1,200 people.
The attack on Oct. 7 was the equivalent to some 40,000 Americans killed on our own day of horror, September 11. Yet, Israel is executing this war by dropping leaflets, calling residents to leave and creating evacuation corridors, while Hamas, the elected leaders of Gaza, wrap themselves in innocents when they are not hiding in the 450 miles of tunnels bought with international aid.
I am not sure what the writers suggest Israel do to eliminate the existential threat by an organization whose sole purpose is to destroy seven million Jewish inhabitants. I can’t think of what is more moral and just than to remove this cancer. What breaks international law is hiding among a population and using mosques, schools and hospitals to kill Jews.
It should be noted that many, including former Supreme Commander of British Forces Richard Kemp, said “The Israeli Defense Forces did more to safeguard the rights of civilians in a combat zone than any other army in history of war.”
To suggest that Human Rights Watch is an arbiter of fact and unbiased reporting, I’m reminded of what Jennifer Roth at The Washington Post wrote: “an anti-Israel group masquerading as one devoted to human rights.” At least they didn’t site the United Nations Relief and Works Agency as a source of moral clarity.
