The Restaurant Examiner: La Panetière in Rye Plans “Bastille Day” Celebration Dinner
France’s equivalent of America’s Independence Day is its famous national holiday “Bastille Day” — celebrated every year on the fourteenth of July. In Paris, a spectacular Bastille Day parade begins at the Arc de Triomphe, continues down the Champs-Élysées, and ends at the Place de la Concorde. Late-night fireworks and lights dazzle onlookers at the Eiffel Tower.
The French holiday commemorates the storming of the infamous Bastille prison on July 14, 1789 — generally considered as the start of the French Revolution.
In Rye on Tuesday, July 14, Jacques Loupiac’s La Panetière pays respect to Bastille Day with a festive dinner, French wines and live French melodies to be provided table-side by an accordionist.
For an entrée, the choices are seared filet of beef with old-fashioned mustard butter or roasted boneless quail au jus.
The prix-fixe cost is $85 per person with optional wine pairing at an additional $50.
The courses to be served on Bastille Day are:
- Vichyssoise of leeks and potatoes
- Mosaic of Carpaccio “Surf and Turf”
- Chatham cod poached in olive oil, Provencal style
- Choice of entrée (either filet of beef or quail)
- Malibu Caribbean rum Sun Splash
- Crepe a la mode, Cherries Jubilee
- “Let them eat” petit-fours
The optional wine pairings are:
- With Mosaic of Carpaccio: 2013 Sauvignon Blanc “La Petite Perriere,” cvc Loire Valley
- With Chatham cod : 2011 Chardonnay Villa Botanica Viognier, Pays D’Oc
- With entrée : 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Chateau Bellevue Bordeaux Superieur
- With dessert: 2014 Guignolet cherry-scented wine
Owner Jacque Loupiac will be available to answer questions about the food from guests, wine from aficionados and Bastille Day from history buffs.
