School nurses are underappreciated, even in today’s world. More than one-third of schools nationwide do not have a nurse who works on site. Some nurses don’t get paid enough and some positions are only part-time jobs. School nurses cannot help kids in need the way they need to.

School nurses also spend years getting an education, sometimes to be wasted at a school that may not appreciate them.

The New York State legislature should pass bill S.4953, which was co-sponsored by state Sen. Peter Harckham, to make it mandatory that every school in New York have a full-time nurse.
