Skarstad, Berard to Run Unopposed in Pleasantville
Deputy Mayor Brian Skarstad and Trustee Mindy Berard have announced they are running for another term on the Pleasantville Village Board.
Skarstad and Berard, both members of the Village Party, will be unopposed for the March 15 election. Village Trustee Stephen Lopez confirmed this weekend the New Pleasantville Party will not nominate any candidates for the board in the nonpartisan election.
Skarstad served on the village board in the 1990s before rejoining the board in 2008, appointed when a vacancy was created when Peter Scherer became mayor. Skarstad was elected to fill out the remainder of the term last year.
While Skarstad initially planned to retire, he said the board is facing a number of key issues and experience is critical.
Berard, elected to the board in 2008, is running for a second term. Berard said her tenure has coincided with controversy and tragedy in the village but there are many things she would still like to accomplish.
“We need to look at making government better and share services in any way we can,” Berard said.
