Senior Housing Project Proposed for Chappaqua
After listening to residents pan the proposed Chappaqua Station affordable housing plan earlier in the evening, the New Castle Town Board began reviewing a proposed senior housing project sought for King Street in Chappaqua on Aug. 7.
Scarsdale-based Mountco Construction and Development Corp. unveiled its plan for a 41,000-square-foot, four-story residence that would contain 39 residential units for seniors 55 and older. The rents would be between n $600 and $1,000 a month. There would also be one apartment for the building’s superintendent, who would live in the building. The property, which is the site of the Chappaqua Animal Hospital, is located in a Business Residential zone
According to the developer, the project would qualify for Westchester County New Homes Acquisition Program and construction funding would come from the state Homes and Community Renewal program.
The facility would have 40 on-site parking spaces in the rear of the site that would be accessed from Memorial Drive
Joel Mounty, president of Mountco, said his company has built several other affordable housing complexes for seniors and would plan to keep control of his units. “The 2,000 units we have we keep in our portfolio,” he said.
Mounty said he wanted a sense from the town board of what it felt about the proposal. “If this is not your cup of tea, let us know up front,” he said. To obtain state funding the town would have to approve the project first, he said.
Town Deputy Supervisor Elise Kessler-Mottel, who chaired the work session in place of the absent Supervisor Susan Carpenter, gave no commitment either for or against the project and said she and her colleagues would discuss it.
