Selesnick Named Chappaqua Asst. Superintendent
Andrew Selesnick, a teacher and administrator in the Chappaqua School District for two decades, was appointed as assistant superintendent for leadership development and human resources at the Nov. 29 school board meeting.
Selesnick, who resides in Pleasantville, will begin his new position on July 1, 2012. He has been principal of Horace Greeley High School for the past nine years.
Superintendent of Schools Lyn McKay said “I just consider him uniquely qualified” for the central office post.
Some of Selesnick’s responsibilities as assistant superintendent will include participating in labor/management meetings and contract negotiations; overseeing the Annual Professional Performance Review of teachers and administrators and the human resource office, leading professional development training; and complying with state and federal requirements.
Prior to becoming principal at Horace Greeley High, he was an English teacher, department chair and assistant principal at the school.
Selesnick said, “It is truly a privilege” to be named assistant superintendent. “We want the best” for students, he said.
“Andrew is up to the challenge,” Board of Education President Alyson Kiesel said. “We’re excited to have him.”
Selesnick, who is earning an annual salary of $193,664 this year, will earn $208,500 as assistant superintendent in 2012-13.
The assistant superintendent position is being filled on an interim basis by Paul Citarella.
McKay said the search for a new high school principal for the 2012-13 school year, would begin this month and process will include the input of the board of education, district staff and residents. The district wants a new principal hired by late February or early March., McKay said.
