Science Scene Returns to White Plains
If you are interested in the hot science topics of the day or you are a science teacher looking to spend more time with like-minded colleagues, then the Science Scene hosted by Rosemarie Sanders at the Black Bear Saloon in White Plains is where you should be 6:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month, beginning August 20.
This month Timothy Glotch, Associate Professor at SUNY Stony Brook, will be “Exploring Mars at Infrared Wavelengths: Clues to the Geologic and Habitability History of the Red Planet.”
The presentations and group discussion take place upstairs in a private room over the bar where attendees can order dinner and sit back and enjoy the science.
Sanders says she began the lecture series to give the public access to cutting edge science presented by the very researchers studying the topic. “So many issues today are of scientific nature. People need to be informed about the world they live in. We need to make wise decisions,” she explains.
The Science Scene is presented by Earth Science Westchester and supported by the Science Teachers Association of New York State, Westchester Section and the National Association of Geoscience Teachers.
Sanders is looking to provide certificates for attending teachers that will be accepted as proof of further education at their annual reviews.
Topics of previous lectures have included climate change, an opportunity to see moon rocks brought back from Apollo 17, meteors, and voice recognition.
Lecturers are from such distinguished institutions as Columbia University, IBM and more to come.
