It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Roland A. White of Valhalla on Apr. 24. He was 87.
Born Oct. 12, 1936, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Emma White and the youngest of four children. Roland graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1954.
In November 1960, Roland married Frieda Temme. Together, they raised two children, Cheryl and Steven, and lived their love story for 61 years.

For 40 years, Roland worked as an electrician for IBEW Local 501/3. But he always said his second career, caring for his two granddaughters, was the best “paying” job he ever had.
Roland enjoyed playing golf, watching many other sports and cheering on the Villanova Wildcats. He was also known to enjoy the occasional Manhattan (UP), stirred, not shaken.

In their retirement, Roland and Frieda enjoyed traveling with friends and family, cruising to Alaska and Bermuda and vacationing in the Bahamas and Las Vegas, but he especially enjoyed the annual beach vacations with the whole family.
Roland is survived by his two children, Cheryl Mattiace (Chris) of Leland, N.C. and Steven White (Melinda) of Armonk; his two granddaughters, Christina White of Darien, Conn., (Grandpuppy Savvy), Alyssa Carthy (Terence) of Armonk; and his two-month-old great-grandson, Cole. Roland is also survived by a brother, Theodore LeBlanc, of Georgia.

The family received friends on Apr. 28 at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Apr. 29 at Holy Innocents Roman Catholic Church in Pleasantville.
