Residents Must Take Their Responsibility to Vote More Seriously

There are 5,220 registered voters in the Village of Pleasantville, and 641 actually voted last week in the village election. That’s 12 percent.

To those who complained that I was “pushy” or “littered the place with cards” or “buttonholed people at the train station,” what would you suggest to increase turnout? I joked with the Board of Elections that cards should be dropped from planes!

To be clear: I am NOT contesting the votes; just the lack of turnout.

Whining on Facebook is not going to improve traffic flow, fill potholes, come up with a solution for the pool issue, monitor new development, make sure site plans are adhered to, help build and maintain sidewalks, that recreation space is available for all ages, and much more.

Only after listening to and questioning candidates, will then voter turnout improve.
