Putnam Man Charged with Cocaine Trafficking
A 52-year-old Putnam County resident was arrested on narcotics-related criminal charges stemming from a four-month investigation into cocaine sales in the towns of Kent and Carmel, according to a statement released by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.
In early February of this year, an undercover investigator assigned to the Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit, developed information that Juan Guzman of Beekman Road in Lake Carmel was selling cocaine at various locations within both towns.
During the investigation, the undercover officer was able to infiltrate Guzman’s enterprise and purchased cocaine from him on six separate occasions.
On May 24, narcotics investigators located Guzman in his car on Farmer’s Mills Road inKent. He was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Sheriff’s Office in Carmel. He was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Sale and Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree – all class “B” felonies.
Guzman was arraigned before Kent Town Justice Kevin Douchkoff and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail for the criminal charges he is facing in the Town of Kent.
Additionally, Justice Douchkoff, acting on behalf of theTown of Carmel Justice Court, set bail at $25,000 for the charges he is facing in that jurisdiction.
If convicted of a single felony count, Guzman may face up to nine years in aNew YorkStatecorrectional facility as determined by a court.
