Putnam Legislature Passes Term Limits
Following the lead of Westchester County, the Putnam County Legislature approved term limits for the county executive and members of the nine-member legislature at its final meeting of 2010 on Dec. 27. But unlike the term limits legislations approved by the Westchester Board of Legislators recently, the limits will not be grandfathered. Putnam County legislators who were elected beginning in 2002 will be subjected to term limits. The Putnam Legislature voted to limit legislators to four consecutive full three-year terms, or six terms total, and to limit the county executive to two consecutive full terms. Term limit proposals were recommended by the county’s Charter Review Commission.
