Putnam Hospital Center Honors Rojas Carroll and Neubauer
At the 48th Annual Gala Dinner and Ball, Putnam Hospital Center recognized the efforts that two individuals have made to the hospital through the years—Dr. Lyda Rojas Carroll and John Neubauer.
Maureen H. Zipparo, president of PHC, spoke about the accomplishments the hospital has had over the past year.
“Over the past year we have witnessed patient satisfaction improve in emergency care, ambulatory surgery, inpatient and outpatient services,” she said. “We would not be where we are today without the outstanding people who comprise our hospital family.” She thanked Dr. Rojas Carroll and Neubauer for their years of service, dedication and loyalty to the hospital.
Rojas Carroll has been an attending physician on staff at Putnam Hospital Center since 1993, and has chaired the department of surgery for seven years. During her 19 years with the hospital, she also served as a member-at-large on the medical staff, as a member of the hospital’s quality assurance committee and has been instrumental in the Putnam Hospital Center Oncology program’s prestigious accreditation by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, serving as physician liaison since the program’s inception.
Affiliated with Mount Kisco Medical Group, with offices on the hospital campus, the board certified general surgeon received her medical degree from New York Medical College and completed her postdoctoral training with an internship and residency in surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center. Rojas Carroll is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
“Lyda is a well-respected leader both in her personal and professional life,” said Keiren M. Farquhar, chairman of the hospital’s Board of Directors. “She is a gifted physician; even more, she has a strong moral compass, sense of community, honest, integrity and a generous heart.”
Successful area business and healthcare advocate, Neubauer has had a long affiliation with Putnam Hospital Center. In 1999, he became a member of the hospital’s Board of Director’s for 12 years, serving as its chairman for three years and overseeing the recent major expansion of the hospital’s facilities and services. While chairman he also served on the Board of Trustees of the hospital’s parent organization, Health Quest, helping to create and define the mission, goals and strategic direction for healthcare in our region. On a state level, he then went on to become a member of board of Governors of the Healthcare Trustees of New York State, co-chairing its Advocacy Committee, as well as serving as Health Quest’s government liaison. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Putnam Hospital Center Foundation.
Neubauer has become a tireless advocate for hospitals and healthcare, contacting business leaders and elected officials to educate them on critical issues and their local impact; in 2007, he was recognized for his efforts by the Healthcare Trustees of New York State’s Trustee Advocacy Award. President of AVP Business Products in Patterson, the former technology education teacher is a founding member of the Patterson Rotary.
“John is a down to earth successful businessman,” said Dr. Joel Buchalter, PHC medical staff president. “He was the warm friendly, quiet chairman during a period of rapid hospital expansion, steering us through the 664 building project, the new emergency department building and the Camarda Care Center. This transformed PHC from a small community hospital to what I believe is the best medical center in the region. Without John I’m not sure these projects would have been possible.”
Also recognized were eight non-doctor hospital employees who have shown their dedication displayed outstanding service to the hospital and its patients.
Putnam Hospital Center, located in Carmel, is a 164-bed not-for-profit acute care hospital offering the highest quality medical, surgical, psychiatric, pediatric and obstetrical/gynecological care, as well as 24-hour emergency services.
