Putnam Head Golf Course Pro Tompuri Mentors Young Players
Putnam County Golf Course Head Golf Pro Jari Tompuri has been taking some young golfers under his wings this year.
“We are so lucky to have the course and its great talent right here in Mahopac,” Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell said. “Would-be pros, students and recreational golfers all benefit from playing and taking lessons here.”
Tompuri coached Ava Minisolo for two-and-a-half years and the hard work paid off. Minisolo received a scholarship to Merrimack College in Andover, MA, and will play on the college’s Division 1 Golf Team.
“Along with playing golf for the team, Ava plans on majoring in engineering,” Tompuri said. “Ava played for Somers High School and competed on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and in the Metropolitan Junior Golf Series.”
Tompuri also coached Alex Weller with good results. Weller will begin his freshman year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this fall and major in Aerospace Engineering. Weller, who played for Putnam Valley High School, plans to try out for RPI’s golf team. While working with Tompuri, Weller competed on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and in the Metropolitan Junior Golf Series
