The Putnam County SPCA is seeking the public’s assistance in an investigation of the shooting of a cat in the Town of Patterson.
According to the SPCA, a three-year-old, neutered, male, orange tabby cat, owned by a resident of Bullet Hole Road in Patterson, was shot with a metal projectile on about Aug. 20. The projectile was possibly a pellet from an Air gun.
The cat, named “Kiwi,” was examined by South Putnam Animal Hospital, where x-rays were taken. The metal projectile was observed in the ventral abdominal muscle wall, where it currently remains. The SPCA stated there will likely be further medical treatment and surgery necessary to remove the pellet.
The cat’s owner has offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for Kiwi’s shooting.
The New York State Humane Association is offering an additional $1,000 to the reward.
Patricia Valusek, Chairperson of the New York State Humane Association, stated, “The individual/s responsible for this cruel crime must be brought to justice.”
Any information or tips on the crime can be given to the SPCA on its 24-hour hotline (845) 520-6915. All information will be kept confidential.
