Putnam County Man Arrested in Alleged Jewelry Theft
A Putnam County man has been arrested on felony criminal charges stemming from his alleged involvement in stealing jewelry from a Southeast residence, according to the sheriff’s office.
On February 14, a homeowner called the Sheriff’s Office to report that jewelry, estimated at about $12,000, was stolen from her home. Deputy Matthew Monroe and Investigator Stephen Tricinelli investigated the complaint. They determined that 23 year-old Devin M. Meschino of 30 Paddock Farm Lane, Brewster, allegedly stole five pieces of jewelry from the complainant and pawned them at a shop in the Bronx.
Sheriff’s Office personnel, with assistance from area police agencies and a Westchester County Police helicopter, searched for Meschino. He was located operating his car on Haviland Drive in Putnam Lake by a New York State trooper and turned over to investigators.
Meschino was arrested and charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a class “D” felony. He was arraigned before Carmel Town Justice Joseph Spofford, acting on behalf of the Southeast Justice Court, and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $25,000 secured bond. He is due to appear before Southeast Town Justice Gregory Folchetti on March 6.
If convicted of the grand larceny charge, Meschino may face a prison term of up to seven years in a New York State correctional facility as determined by a court.
