October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center is holding its third annual Walk to End Domestic Violence on Sunday, Oct. 8 at FDR Park in Yorktown Heights at 9 a.m.

As a longstanding member and president of the center’s Board of Directors, I am proud of the work we do providing counseling, advocacy and education for women, children and men who have experienced domestic or sexual abuse. For over 40 years, the Women’s Center has supported the community through its shelter, its 24-hour hotline, sexual assault exams, housing assistance, awareness programs and so much more.

However, as a nonprofit organization, we rely on donations, grants and sponsorships from the communities we serve. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I ask that you help us continue our work for those affected by family violence, and I invite all members of the public to register for and join us at our annual walk.

Visit www.pnwwrc.org to see the wonderful work we do. As a former career prosecutor and head of the Special Prosecutions Division of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, I have seen firsthand the devastation to the families impacted by domestic abuse.

So please visit this site to register for the walk or to make a donation to help us continue our work.

Thank you! I hope to see you at the walk!

Maryellen Martirano, Esq.
President, Board of Directors
