Popular Sidewalk Sales Days Returns to Mt. Kisco This Weekend
You don’t have to go far to buy a wide variety of merchandise, listen to live music, eat a delicious assortment of foods and have the kids enjoy carnival rides.
You could do all of that this weekend in downtown Mount Kisco.
The 44th annual Sidewalk Sales Days is slated for this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event, which is hosted by the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce, will be held along South Moger Avenue, Shopper’s Park and behind Village Hall. More than 7,500 people were estimated to have attended last year.
In addition to some great buys, there will be puppet shows and performances by the Beatles tribute band Strictly Beatles. Some of the other local and regional acts that are scheduled include Joey Sandak, Gabrielle Sanson, the Westchester Youth Choir, the Jammers, Petey Hop, Estrellas de America, the Frank Enea Band, the Infinity Repertory Theater Group, Lisa Jane Lipkin and Andrew Bordeaux.
About 15 varieties of food will be available for purchase and youngsters can go on carnival rides at the kids’ zone, located behind Village Hall this year. On Sunday morning there will be the second running of the Kisco 5K road race.
Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce President Dan Taplitz said he looks forward to Sidewalk Sales Days every year.
“It’s a great two-day event,” he said. “It brings the community together.”
Sidewalk Sales Days was originally a summer event, but it was eventually moved to September, Taplitz said.
“It’s a great way to start the fall season,” he said.
Karen Rand, owner of Heller Shoes, said Sidewalk Sales Days is not only for village residents, noting that people come from as far away as Connecticut and Manhattan to attend. The event includes the participation of about 150 vendors.
“We see the same people every year,” Rand said.
Rand said her store will offer discounts of up to 25 percent during the event.
George Arco, owner of Arco Cleaning, said his company has been a Sidewalk Sales Days participant for about three decades. He said it’s an excellent way for local business owners to introduce themselves to the public.
“It’s a great networking event,” he said.
Mount Kisco was in the forefront of the sidewalk sales concept, one of the first communities to use the street fair approach to promote business, Arco said.
The success behind Sidewalk Sales Days is that it’s “a community event the whole community gets behind,” Arco said.
Sidewalk Sales Days sponsors include TD Bank as carnival sponsor; Examiner Media as entertainment stage sponsor; and Arco Cleaning, Diamond Properties, Events To Remember, Funtime Amusements, Signarama, State Farm Insurance – Mike Christastie Agency and Whalen’s Moving & Storage as general sponsors.
