Pleasantville Should Take Action to Improve Dangerous Intersection

I am 14 years old and I attend Pleasantville Middle School. Pleasantville is a walking school district and doesn’t provide busing for students. Because of this, a lot of students walk to school.

Pleasantville is mostly safe to walk, but there is one intersection that I find dangerous. The intersection of Manville Road with the entrance and exit to the southbound Saw Mill River Parkway is dangerous for cars, bikes and pedestrians.

This area is dangerous for three reasons. First, drivers exiting the parkway frequently fail to stop at the provided stop sign. Second, drivers on Manville Road tend to go faster than the speed limit. Finally, this is a tricky intersection because there are a number of roads that come together in a small area.

To improve safety in Pleasantville, I think that the village should add a stop light to this intersection. Adding this stop light will improve safety for everyone at this intersection, especially pedestrians.

I encourage The Examiner to report on this topic to bring more visibility to this safety issue. I hope doing so will bring attention to this important topic for the residents of Pleasantville.

Thank you,
