Plans for Restaurant/Amusement Center in Peekskill Moving Forward
Plans for a multi-faceted development on John Walsh Boulevard in Peekskill are moving ahead with hopes of a new restaurant on the waterfront opening in the fall.
Representatives for Diamond Properties appeared before the Peekskill Planning Commission in February to give an update on the project, which besides a restaurant and catering facility, include an eight-lane bowling alley, brewery and distillery, amusement center, manufacturing component and a museum.
“We are blessed with an amazing location in terms of amenities,” said architect Chris Borchardt of CDBD Architecture in Peekskill. “We’re trying to create a solution that allows all three businesses to function independently of each other. The goal is to make it look like we’ve never been there.”
The property formerly housed The Cove restaurant and is located near D. Bertoline & Sons. Borchardt stressed the proximity to the Hudson River made it ideal for water-related features, such as kayak rentals, a beer garden and Westchester’s first “float-in” movie theater where people could pull up in a boat and watch a film.
The amusement center on the first floor would have laser tag, billiards and an arcade. Outdoors would be a ropes course and possibly a trapeze school. The estimated $6.5 million project is expected to generate at least 200 jobs.
“I think we all liked what we heard. Keep going,” said Planning Commission Chairman Jeffrey Stern.
“I like it. I’m excited. It’s going to be fun,” said Planning Commission member Ruth Wells.
Getting the restaurant open and running is the first priority for Diamond Properties. The amusement center opening isn’t anticipated for a year or two.
