Phyllis Ponturo

Phyllis (Foca) Ponturo died on June 16 at the age of 98.
Born in Pleasantville on Jan. 27, 1925, Phyllis was an early parishioner of Holy Innocents before moving with her husband, Joseph, to Hawthorne. She became a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church. She was married to the love of her life, Joseph, on Sept. 14, 1948. She was predeceased by her husband on June 3, 2015, and seven siblings.
The great mother and grandmother that she was, she raised two children and is survived by her son, Paul Ponturo (Carolyn) and Lisa Young (Ponturo); two granddaughters, Ivy (Mark) Kennedy and Tara (John) Sheehan; two great-grandchildren, Ava Jay Sheehan and Callan Joseph Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews.
The wake was held at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville on June. 18. A Mass was celebrated at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne on June 19.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
