Chase Ending Newspaper Publishing Operation
Three months after North County News and the Yorktown-based PennySaver were combined into PennySaver Community, parent company Chase Media Group has decided to return the PennySaver to its shopper format and end newspaper operations.
“In the weeks ahead, you will see the PennySaver is in your mailbox again, in the traditional ‘shopper’ format familiar to you for the past 54 years,” Carla Chase, the CEO of Chase Media Group, said in an announcement posted on the company’s website. “It is with sincere appreciation for your preference of this format, and the market mood that recommends a ‘shopper’ over a newspaper format, that we return to this proven product.”
In April, Chase Media announced it would end production of North County News, a weekly community newspaper which began publishing in 1966 as The Yorktowner. Chase also halted circulation of the traditional PennySaver and launched PennySaver Community, which featured some editorial coverage along with display and classified advertising.
