It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Patricia Ann McAuliffe Van Cura Lemmermann, who departed this life on Oct. 12 at the age of 91.
Patricia was a cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose life was marked by love, service and creativity.
Born on Apr. 17, 1933, Patricia was the proud granddaughter of Mary McAuliffe, the oldest deputy sheriff in the nation, and Patrick J. McAuliffe, a skilled cabinetmaker.
She was also the grandniece of Dorothy E. McAuliffe Ferris, a dedicated U.S. marshal.
Patricia was the daughter of James P. McAuliffe, a firefighter for the City of White Plains, and Anna E. Foley.
She attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School and Post Road Middle School, later graduating from White Plains High School in 1951.
In 1954, Patricia married Harold F. Van Cura, a real estate broker and World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy and Army National Guard. Together, they raised five children: Harold Jr., Nancy, John, Jane and James.
The family resided in Yorktown Heights, where Patricia embraced her family’s legacy of public service. She was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church, participated in the Altar and Rosary Society and volunteered with the Yorktown School District’s Parent Teacher Association. Additionally, she served as a den mother for the Yorktown Chapter of Boy Scouts.
In 1979, the family relocated to La Grange, where Patricia worked for Century 21 Real Estate and managed The Main Exchange Thrift Shop, benefiting St. Francis Hospital of Poughkeepsie. They were active members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Following the passing of her beloved husband, Harold, Patricia found new joy in her life when she married Amos Lemmermann of Red Hook, N.Y. Even in retirement at Lake Taconic, Patricia continued her commitment to service by volunteering at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, N.Y., where she supported the hospital auxiliary and thrift store.
An avid painter and traveler, Patricia left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She is survived by her five children, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Patricia’s spirit of service, creativity and love will forever be remembered and cherished by her family and community.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in her honor.
