Mother’s Day brunch is an easy and obvious way to celebrate Mom but, as with most tried-and-true traditions, sometimes you just have to shake things up. Take the special woman in your life somewhere unexpected this year to show you are really listening when she tells you about her love of Indian or Greek food. These local favorite establishments have some special menus and cocktails planned just for the occasion.
Southern Table
Pleasantville
Brunch is always an occasion at Southern Table but on Mother’s Day, expect them to pull out all the stops with specialty items for the occasion and Mother’s Day cocktails. Try the Deep South Donkey, Tito’s lime and cranberry cocktail, or the Preacher’s Daughter made with Grey Whale Gin, St. Germain, and muddled mint. While you’re here, skip the pancakes and eggs and try the shrimp and grits or the Bulleit burger with a Bulleit Bourbon glaze, local aged cheddar, and spicy Southern Aioli with grilled bacon and caramelized onions. Brunch begins at 11 a.m.

Jaipore Royal Indian Cuisine
Brewster
After a two-year pandemic-induced hiatus, Jaipore, one of the region’s top Indian restaurants, is bringing its tradition of serving Mother’s Day brunch back, and we can’t be more excited. The incredible location is loaded with history, dating back to 1856. Mother’s Day brunch is served as a buffet and includes all-time favorites like chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, lassoni gobi, pakora and samosas, and aloo gobi. For dessert, gulab jamun and ice cream will be served. Says Roshan Balan, owner of Jaipore, “Mother’s Day buffet has been our all-time favorite ever since we introduced it 25 years ago.” Brunch is served from noon to 3 p.m.

Tomatillo
Dobbs Ferry
If your mother prefers the flavors of Mexico over pancakes and sausage, take her to Tomatillo for the chilaquiles con huevos (above). “Nothing better than the runny yolk of a fried egg over a bowl of tortillas drenched in salsa verde. In my opinion, they are kind of like breakfast nachos. It’s my go-to breakfast when traveling around Mexico,” says David Starkey, owner of Tomatillo. “If you are feeling adventurous, add a Bloody Verde Mary with tequila and pickled jalapenos.” Tomatillo is known for its “farm-to-taco” approach to Mexican and has served brunch for Mother’s Day for many years. Despite taking two years off because of the pandemic, they haven’t missed a beat. Limited outdoor seating expands as the weather warms. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kumo Sushi Lounge
Scarsdale
For Chef Steven Chen at Kumo, the quality of the food is just as important as the presentation and the special he has created for Mother’s Day is no exception. The Perfect 10 sushi roll (above) honors his wife, Ann, who became a mother 10 years ago with the birth of their son. The roll doesn’t include raw fish and it’s made with Ann’s favorite top-quality ingredients: lobster salad, eel, and avocado, wrapped in pink soy paper. The roll will be on their menu all Mother’s Day weekend. Sunday hours are 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Sonora
Port Chester
For a Spanish take on brunch, try this Latin favorite in downtown Port Chester. They have a delightful patio and delicious Sangria. The paella is a customer favorite for good reason. Their brunch version of paella combines chorizo, chicken, and pork topped with a fried egg. There’s a vegetarian option, too! Try the quinoa empanadas or pulpo (octopus served with roasted purple potatoes and chorizo) for starters. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Greca Mediterranean Kitchen + Bar
White Plains
For the occasion, Greca will be serving all-day brunch with a number of entrée specials and favorites from the dinner menu like Astakomakaronada (a traditional Greek lobster pasta), crabcake kataifi (above), and Yiouvetsi (a slow-roasted lamb shank) with orzo. “Our menu is a reflection of Greek culture,” says Dino Kolitsas, owner of Greca. “Dining at Greca is an experience that is unique and special. We always say that our guests enter as strangers and leave as friends. This captures the spirit of our hospitality.” The atmosphere is welcoming, like having Sunday dinner with your grandma, but the vibe at Greca is more like sophisticated midtown Manhattan with clean lines and modern décor. Brunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
