Ossining Town Board Decides to Table Homestead Option
The Ossining Town Board has decided to suspend further talks about considering a Homestead Option, which could significantly raise the assessments and property taxes for residential and commercial land owners, and condo and co-op owners.
In a written release issued by Supervisor Sue Donnelly last week, the town board concluded it would be unable to tackle both revaluation and the Homestead Option simultaneously. The town is in the process of revaluating properties for the first time in 43 years.
“After considerable review and analysis by this board and in consultation with legal counsel and the town assessor, the board has determined it is in the best interest of the entire community to table, or suspend pursuit of, the Homestead Option,” the release stated. “In fairness to the community members, to the assessor, and to this board, we need to focus on the revaluation in its own right.”
The board did not rule out reconsidering the Homestead Option in the future.
