Ossining Ponders Significant Changes
The Village and Town of Ossining are working together to choose a consultant to look at the governmental structure of both municipalities.
The municipalities have narrowed it down to two different consulting firms, CGR and Fairweather, and will make a decision at Tuesday’s board meeting. At a joint meeting on June 16 the municipalities heard presentations from both firms.
The study, which will cost $50,000 to complete, will be funded with a $45,000 grant from the New York Department of State High Priority Planning. The other $5,000 will be split between the municipalities.
The study will determine how services can be delivered to their respective constituencies in the most efficient and cost effective manner through the reduction of duplication and elimination of governmental inefficiencies. Municipal officials expect the study to take about a year to complete.
“We’re not aiming for one specific solution,” Town Supervisor Catherine Borgia said. “We want to hear all the possibilities.
Possible outcomes could see Ossining remain the same, became a city, or become a conterminous town-village.
