Ossining’s families and neighbors joined in the Earth Day festivities on April 30 at Louis B. Engel Waterfront Park. Bringing as much fun as it did education to the community, Ossining’s Earth Day/Stash the Trash event was filled with activities, live entertainment, healthy food and informational booths that introduced ways to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

“We estimate between 1,000 to 1,200 people came through the park on Saturday to enjoy food, music and learning about how to live a sustainable life. It was a great team effort and a great day on the beautiful Ossining waterfront,” said Ossining Supervisor Catherine Borgia in a statement released following the event.

Organized by the Green Ossining Committee, a joint town and village effort, the day encouraged volunteers to help pick up the trash in the park and learn about recycling.  There were also swap stations for sports and recreation equipment as well as prom dresses.

“Thank you, everyone, for making Green Ossining’s second annual Earth Day such an unqualified success,” Borgia said. “Onward to next year:  bigger and better! Please forward to me any suggestions about how we can make the 3rd Annual Earth Day even more successful in 2012.”
