New North Castle Police Chief Geoffrey Harisch was introduced on Wednesday night.

For the second time this year, there’s a change at the helm of the North Castle Police Department.

The town board promoted to chief Lt. Geoffrey Harisch, a 26-year law enforcement veteran who has risen through the department’s ranks, in a unanimous vote at its Wednesday evening meeting. William Fisher, who took over the top position in January following the retirement of longtime chief Robert D’Angelo, will return to his lieutenant’s role.

The appointment was effective as of Aug. 10.

Supervisor Howard Arden explained following the meeting that Harisch will focus primarily on the day-to-day police operations while Fisher will be responsible for budgeting responsibilities. He also said that Harisch is savvy with new technology, which will help moved the department forward.

The two men complement each other well and have worked well together, the supervisor said.

“I think we come out with the best situation that we could possibly have,” Arden said.

Of the three candidates for the job, Harisch had the highest score on the chief’s civil service test, he said.
