No. Castle Historical Society Welcomes Return of Armonk Antiques Show
One of the many casualties of the 2008 economic downturn was the suspension of the North Castle Historical Society’s Armonk Antiques Show.
A key fundraiser for the organization for 30 years, when the market cratered, that spelled the end of the show–until now.
This weekend the New Armonk Antiques Show will get a fresh start after a six-year break with a new venue, some new dealers and a new benefit preview party to kick off the festivities. The party, on Friday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m., will be held at Brynwood Golf & Country Club and will feature drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Each ticket is $50.
Meanwhile, the two-day show, also at Brynwood, is set for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A pass for the weekend costs $10.
“We’re just happy we’ve been able to resume the show,” said Doris Finch Watson, North Castle’s town historian. “We are very much looking forward next week to a successful show.”
Watson said proceeds from the weekend will be used toward the upkeep of the five buildings on the Smith’s Tavern complex, including the historic tavern, the Brundage Blacksmith Shop, the one-room East Middle Patent schoolhouse and the 1798 Quaker meeting house The complex is used by visitors and field trips by local school groups, she said.
One of the biggest changes for this year’s show is the switch to Brynwood on Bedford Road. That change will not only allow for more space and for the show to be set up earlier, but the historical society can now host the preview party with the purpose of attracting antiques enthusiasts, said Frank Gaglio, of Barn Star Productions, the Rhinebeck-based manager of the event.
He said there will be a wide range of antiques dealers, ranging from fine formal and rural American, English and Continental furnishings to exceptional works of art. There will be important Asian, English and domestic ceramics; rare books and documents; designer and estate jewelry; arts and crafts pottery; early brass candlesticks and copper; Oriental rugs; eclectic decorations as well as cool folk art; figural cast iron door stops; silver; German Black Forest carvings; needlework samplers; nautical Woolies, garden antiques and much more.
