No. Castle Highway Dept. Head to Retire
Another department head will be leaving the Town of North Castle.
Craig Usted, the highway department’s general foreman, will be retiring from his position on Feb. 25 after 36 years with the town.
“When he came into my office and gave me the letter (Tuesday) I was very surprised,” said North Castle Supervisor William Weaver.
Usted is the third department head to leave the town within the past month. On Dec. 15, Comptroller Dawn Donovan left for a similar position in Eastchester. In October, former Recreation and Parks Supervisor, who also had worked for the town for more than 30 years, announced his retirement effective Dec. 31.
Weaver said Usted has also asked to use accrued vacation time from Jan. 24 until his retirement date.
Weaver and another town board member, Councilwoman Diane Roth, did not attribute the recent departures to any particular reason. Last month Councilwoman Becky Kittredge stated that morale among many town employees and department heads has been low as a result of town board bickering and pressure being applied to cut the town’s workforce.
“I’m thrilled that we have these vacancies,” Roth said. “This is time for total change.”
