New Vets Memorial Park to be Opened in Cortlandt
A press release from the Town of Cortlandt.
The Town of Corflandt will hold a grand opening ceremony for its new Veteran’s Memorial Park on Tuesday, July 31 at 3 p.m. at Cortlandt Waterfront Park, near the Hudson River in the hamlet of Verplanck/Cortlandt.
“The Town Board and I are very pleased that we were able to fund and construct this beautiful and very important Veteran’s Memorial Park,” said Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi. “It is located on town-owned land next to the Hudson River. It pays tribute to all of the men and women who have defended our country and served in our military in all branches of service over the years.”
Local veteran Arthur Rickey commented on the significance of the memorial.
“I have seen and read many hundreds of memorials, monuments, dedicated to many worth while places, deeds and people,” said Rickey, a member of William J. Boyle American Legion Post 1030. “This memorial, though smaller in size, is larger in numbers than any of the others. It is dedicated to every man [and] woman that ever honorably served in a branch of the United States military, whether it was one day or for a career, in combat or non-combat. It is something we need.”
