New Chappaqua Principals Could Be Picked This Month
New principals for Roaring Brook Elementary School and Horace Greeley High School could be chosen by the end of the month.
Chappaqua Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lyn McKay announced earlier this week there were two finalists for the Horace Greeley position and three finalists for the Roaring Brook post.
“We feel they’re very strong candidates,” she said at the Jan. 31 board of education meeting.
McKay said she would not release the names of the finalists, who are all currently employed. The district will “try to keep them confidential,” she said.
Interim Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Paul Citarella said after there were 197 applicants for the Roaring Brook principal opening and 147 applicants for the Horace Greeley position after the district recently placed ads for both posts in Education Weekly and The New York Times.
“The majority come from the tri-state area,” Citarella said. “(But) it was a national search.”
Committees have already started the interviewing process, he said. The first round of interviews to fill the high school principal vacancy took place on Jan. 18 and 19 and the second round was scheduled for Friday, Feb. 3 and Monday, Feb. 6. The third round is slated for Tuesday.
Roaring Brook interviews began on Jan. 25 and 26; the second round will take place Feb. 7-9 and the third round is scheduled for Feb. 13, Citarella said.
The board of education could vote to appoint both principals at the Feb. 28 meeting, Citarella said.
The 14-person committee reviewing the Horace Greeley candidates includes teachers and other staff, parents and students. The 12-member Roaring Brook committee consists of district employees and parents.
