Murphy, Galef, Carlucci Reelected to State Seats: Byrne Elected

Incumbent State Senators Terrence Murphy and David Carlucci and longtime State Assemblywoman Sandra Galef were comfortably reelected Tuesday, while Republican Kevin Byrne was elected to the Assembly to replace Steve Katz.

With 100% of the votes tabulated in Putnam County, Murphy (Yorktown) collected 70% of the votes (18,395) to defeat Democrat Alison Boak, who earned 7,623 votes. In Westchester, with 72% of the votes counted, Murphy had 54% (35,534) to Boak’s 46% (30,332). Murphy will be serving his second two-year term in the 40^th District.

Carlucci, a Democrat, earned a fourth term representing the 38^th Senate District by besting Republican challenger Thomas Deprisco. Carlucci captured 69% of the votes in Westchester and 68% in Rockland.

In the 95^th Assembly District, Galef, a Democrat, earned a 13^th term in office over challenger Gregory Purdy. In Putnam, with 100% of the votes counted, Galef received 56% (5,795) to 42% (4,205) for Purdy, a first-time candidate from Kent. In Westchester, with 68% of the votes counted, Galef led 71% (17,037) to 29% (6,997).

Meanwhile, in the 94^th Assembly, Byrne outlasted Yorktown resident Brian Higbie in Putnam 66% (19.506) to 34% (10,039) in Putnam. In Westchester, with 81% of the votes counted, Byrne led 57% (12,471) to 43% (9,295).
