Mt. Kisco’s Griffin Chosen for Veterans Hall of Fame
George Griffin Jr. has been a fixture in Mount Kisco for many years. He owned his own business and has been the village’s deputy mayor after serving on the planning board for more than seven years.
Now the rest of the region will have an opportunity to get to know him.
The 11-year village trustee was nominated by the village board for state Sen. Greg Ball’s Veterans Hall of Fame. One veteran from each municipality in the 40th state Senate District is honored every year.
Family, friends, current and former colleagues in village government and members of the Moses Taylor Post 136 in Mount Kisco honored Griffin, 67, at a ceremony during the Nov. 3 village board meeting. Griffin, his wife of 25 years, Grace, their two children and grandson joined in the celebration.
Griffin was drafted into the Army and trained as a military police officer. He served in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968, including during the Tet Offensive, and was with the 720th Military Police Battalion and the 18th MP Brigade at Long Binh, said Mayor Michael Cindrich.
He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bars and the Army Commendation Medal. Griffin was promoted to sergeant.
Griffin is a longtime member of the Moses Taylor American Legion Post in Mount Kisco and formerly served as its commander.
A proclamation from Ball to honor Griffin was read by the senator’s chief of staff Suzi McDonough, which praised him for “dedication to his community, state and nation.”
“It’s proud for me to serve on this village board with you,” Cindrich said to Griffin.
Ball’s annual ceremony for the Hall of Fame nominees will take place on Thursday, Nov. 20 in Mahopac.
